UC seeking recruiting coordinator
By Gary Estwick
The Cincinnati Enquirer
University of Cincinnati coach Rick Minter said Jeff Filkovski, the Bearcats' quarterbacks coach and recruiting coordinator, will relinquish his recruiting duties in order to focus on the Bearcats' offense when Minter restructures the coaching staff, four new assistant coaches will be hired.
Minter, who is 41-49-1 in eight seasons at UC, signed a contract extension Tuesday that will pay him a total of $295,000 a season, comprising base salary and compensation for radio, television and public relations work, with an available incentive of $50,000 a year.
Minter will hire an offensive coordinator, wide receivers coach, defensive line coach and linebackers coach, one of whom will take over the recruiting duties.
Minter said the change is not a demotion for Filkovski: It's more of taking recruiting off on him to make sure there's more time and diligence put into the quarterback coaching position.
Minter said the recruiting position will take up about 80 percent of a new coach's responsibilities.
