King scores 19 points as UC women pound UAB

        Valerie King scored 19 points and Debbie Merrill added 14 at Cincinnati defeated Alabama-Birmingham 78-35 Friday night.

        Carolyn Alexander had eight rebounds for the Bearcats (14-4, 3-3 Conference USA), who had a 44-32 advantage on the boards. K.B. Sharp had nine assists for UC.

        The Blazers (8-11, 0-6) made 26 turnovers, which resulted in 35 Bearcats points. UAB made only 24 percent of its field goal attempts in the first half (6-of-25) and trailed 46-13 at halftime.

        Natasha Thomas led UAB with 14 points.
