UC game will air from tipoff

Xavier game may be another story

By John Fay
The Cincinnati Enquirer

UC fans have been calling Channel 12 asking if they will see the whole Cincinnati-Brigham Young NCAA Tournament game tonight. The answer is yes.

ON CHANNEL 12
  12:20 p.m.: Kentucky-Holy Cross
  2:42 p.m.: St. Joseph's-Ga. Tech
  7:55 p.m.: Indiana-Kent St.
  10:12 p.m.: Cincinnati-BYU
  Friday
  12:20 p.m.: Virginia-Gonzaga
  2:47 p.m.: Oklahoma-Indiana St.
  7:50 p.m.: Penn St.-Providence
  10:12 p.m.: Xavier-Notre Dame
The UC game is a “constant” for this market on the CBS affiliate. That means it overrides all other games in almost all circumstances. There won't be any conflict tonight, because UC-BYU is preceded by the Indiana-Kent State game on Channel 12. Both games are in San Diego, so the Indiana game will be over before UC starts.

CBS will switch to another game to fill the gap, but it will pick up UC's game from the start.

Friday's Xavier-Notre Dame game is a different case. Penn State-Providence is on before XU-Notre Dame, and there's a chance it will run late.

“If it's a blowout, we'll go to (Xavier-Notre Dame),” CBS spokesman Jerry Caraccioli said. “If it's close, it's a management decision at the time.”

The only conflict among the regional teams comes today. UK plays Holy Cross at 12:20p.m. Ohio State tips off against Utah State five minutes later.

Channel 12 will carry UK. Channel 7 in Dayton is airing Ohio State.

Channel 12 switched from the Illinois-Northwestern State game to Virginia-Gonzaga. Channel 12 wants to show former Xavier coach Pete Gillen's Virginia team.
