UC's road to title game

(Matchups assume higher-seeded teams win earlier games)

        FIRST ROUND

        • Brigham Young (24-8, RPI 37): The Cougars are in the tournament for the first time since '95, and they were 1-25 in '96-97 season. Good news: Danny Ainge is out of eligibility.

        SECOND ROUND

        • Indiana (21-12, RPI 16): Man, a year ago it would have been Bobby Knight vs. Bob Huggins. Oh well, it's a beautiful regional matchup we'd never see scheduled otherwise.

        SWEET 16

        • Stanford (28-2, RPI 2): Cardinal a favorite to make second final four appearance in four seasons. UC's front line probably not looking forward to meeting twin-tower Collins twins, Jason and Jarron.

        ELITE EIGHT

        • Iowa State (25-5, RPI 13): Cyclones guard Jamaal Tinsley would be great match for Steve Logan and Kenny Satterfield. Cats would love to avenge second-round NCAA loss to Iowa State four years — all-American Danny Fortson's final game.

        FINAL FOUR

        • Duke (29-4, RPI 1): Sure, UC fans would rather play Kentucky here. But Duke's no problem. After all, UC beat the then-top-rated Blue Devils the last time they played, in the Great Alaska Shootout in November 1998.

        TITLE GAME

        • Illinois (24-7, RPI 6) or Michigan State (24-4, RPI 3): Bring 'em on. The Bearcats have played MSU three times since Huggins' arrival, but not since a 77-65 UC victory in the 1992 NCAA Tournament second round. Once Bearcats take care of this business, the UC-to-the-Big Ten rumors can start back up.
