UC women lose to Louisville

Cincinnati shot a season-low 29 percent from the field as Conference USA regular-season champion Louisville snapped the Bearcats' five-game win streak with a 70-57 victory in front of a season-high 1,937 fans Saturday in the Shoemaker Center.

UC closed out the regular season 19-8 overall and 9-7 in C-USA play, while the Cardinals wrapped up the year 19-8 (14-2). Both teams will compete in the C-USA Tournament next weekend in Milwaukee.

Valerie King led the Bearcats with 19 points and became the third freshman in UC history to end the regular season as the team's leading scorer; she joins Linda Norwell (1973-74) and Jolinda Lewis (1994-95). Sophomore K.B. Sharp added 11 points and a game-high four assists for Cincinnati, while Tammy Douglass pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds.

The Bearcats jumped out to a 14-4 lead over the first five minutes of the first half but could not hang on. UC was held scoreless for nearly six minutes as Louisville went on a 13-2 run to take a 17-16 lead at the 9:02 mark.

UC held a 27-24 halftime lead and maintained it over the first eight minutes of the second half before Louisville freshman Sara Nord sank a 3-pointer to lift the Cardinals to a 39-38 advantage. The teams traded leads two more times until Kim Grahm converted a layup with 6:20 on the clock, sparking a game-winning 20-8 run for the Cardinals.
