UC to host Purdue in 2001 football opener

The Cincinnati Enquirer

Big Ten champion Purdue will open the University of Cincinnati's football season next Sept.1 at Nippert Stadium.

The non-conference schedule was released Wednesday by UC.

“We look forward to continuing our climb,” said UC coach Rick Minter, whose team's 7-5 season featured a runner-up finish in Conference USA and a trip to the Motor City Bowl in Detroit. “We also think that's a game Purdue fans will want to travel to in the post-Drew Brees era.”

        Other nonconference games are:

        • Sept.15 vs. Louisiana-Monroe (formerly Southeast Lousiana)

        • Sept.22 at. rival Miami.

        • Oct.3 vs. Connecticut.

Conference USA champion Louisville and another bowl participant, East Carolina, will visit for league games. Conference foe Tulane also plays here.

Conference road games are at Army, UAB, Houston and Memphis. C-USA dates have not been set, pending TV schedules.
