UC bowl history
• 1947 Sun Bowl: UC 18, Virginia Tech 6
The Bearcats outgained Tech 369-34 on the ground and scored three second-half touchdowns. Harold Johnson scored the first TD on a 13-yard run and helped turn back Tech with two interceptions in UC territory, one in the end zone. UC finished the season 9-2, including wins over Indiana and Michigan State.
• 1949 Glass Bowl: UC 33, Toledo 13
Bob Stratton and Gene Gibson scored two touchdowns each for the Bearcats. Stratton scored on runs of 10 and 29 yards; Gibson had a 76-yard punt return for a score, and an 80-yard TD when Don Jansen intercepted a pass and lateraled to him.
• 1951 Sun Bowl: West Texas State 14, UC 13
West Texas State scored the go-ahead touchdown on a fake punt in the third quarter, making UC pay for a missed extra point earlier in the game. A 35-yard field goal attempt by UC in the fourth quarter also was off the mark. Tom McKeever and Bob Stratton scored UC's touchdowns.
• 1997 Humanitarian Bowl: UC 35, Utah State 19
Chad Plummer and Deontey Kenner, rotating at quarterback for UC, each threw a touchdown pass, and Plummer ran for another score. Sparked by Orlando Smith and Robert Cooper, UC outrushed the Aggies 225-63.
