Bearcats face Tigers minus Logan

Guard expected to sit out today with ankle sprain

BAYAMON, Puerto Rico — The University of Cincinnati may have to continue its quest to win the Puerto Rico Holiday Classic without junior guard Steve Logan, the most experienced player on the team.

Logan is doubtful for today's semifinal game against Clemson (4 p.m.) after suffering a moderately sprained left ankle in Wednesday's 74-65 victory over Youngstown State.

He was taken for precautionary x-rays, which were negative. Athletic trainer Jayd Grossman said Logan is questionable for Friday, the third day of the tournament.

Logan, who scored nine of UC's first 11 points Wednesday, was injured with 15:37 remaining and had to be helped to the bench.

He watched the game with his ankle iced and propped on a chair before leaving for the hospital with 42 seconds to play.

“I don't think there's any way,” UC coach Bob Huggins said when asked if he planned to have Logan against Clemson.

Sophomore center Donald Little did not play the second half. He was kicked in the left calf early in the first half and experienced muscle tightness that prohibited him from running and jumping, Grossman said. Little is probable for today's game.

Clemson was 11-of-29 from 3-point range and defeated Florida Atlantic 94-81 on Wednesday. It has won six of its last seven games.

The Tigers (7-2) had four players score in double figures, including junior guard Will Solomon (19.3 ppg) and 7-foot-1 senior center Adam Allenspach (13 ppg, 9.8 rpg), their top two offensive players. Allenspach has been in double figures in scoring and rebounding for four straight games.

“I think they're terrific defensively,” Huggins said. “They make some shots. If we just do what we're supposed to do, we'll be fine defensively. (But) we've got to be able to score.”
