The UC BEARCATS
Sunday, March 05, 2000

Next: So. Miss or St. Louis

BY MIKE DeCOURCY
The Cincinnati Enquirer

There hasn't been any doubt for more than two weeks the Bearcats would be the No. 1 seed in the Conference USA tournament, which begins Wednesday in Memphis.

The results of Saturday's games, though, determined UC will play the winner between Southern Mississippi and Saint Louis in Thursday's quarterfinals. The game will begin at 1 p.m. and will be televised by Channel 19.

Since clinching the C-USA title, UC has beaten both Southern Miss and SLU by a combined 69 points at the Shoemaker Center.

This was not good news for Billikens coach Lorenzo Romar that his team would be facing the Golden Eagles in the first round — who beat SLU 71-48 — and then the Bearcats.

“I don't like the way we played and how we lost,” Romar said. “Now we've played them twice, and when they got going, they came at us with everything they had. Now we know what that feels like.

“I'd love to comment on it more, but that's not the case yet. We've got a game before them.”
