CHARLOTTE, N.C. - As the game ended, Kenyon Martin broke into a huge grin and trotted off the Halton Arena floor, only to stop, turn around and stick out his tongue at the raucous sellout crowd of 9,105 that had taunted him all night.
Martin said the gesture wasn't intended to insult the fans, but was merely his way of having fun in what he said is one of the two toughest arenas in Conference USA.
I think this place ranks right up there with our place, he said.
During the game, Martin laughed at the taunts of the fans, invited them to heap it on more and even danced to the music of the 49ers' pep band during timeouts.
I'm just out there having fun, Martin said. If you're not having fun, why play?
North Carolina Charlotte lost for the first time in eight home games this season.
I'm sure Cincinnati feels they didn't play their best game, coach Bobby Lutz said. And I feel we had something to do with that.
