UC women top No. 13 Tulane
Flournoy helps Bearcats hand Wave first loss
The Associated Press
Portia Flournoy scored a career-high 17 points and led two spurts as Cincinnati beat No. 13 Tulane 70-59 on Friday, the Green Wave's first loss of the season.
Tulane (14-1, 3-1 Conference USA) wasted an 11-point lead in the first half and failed to score for nearly seven minutes in the second half as Cincinnati (8-6, 2-2) pulled away.
The loss ended the longest winning streak by a women's team in Conference USA history and Tulane history. Heading into the game, Tulane was one of only three unbeaten teams left in Division I, along with Connecticut and N.C. State.
Grace Daley scored 23 points and helped Tulane get off to a fast start. She hit a pair of 3-pointers and a jump shot as the Green Wave opened with a 15-6 run.
The Bearcats responded with a 17-5 run behind Flournoy, who made a jumper, a three-point play and a layup to put Cincinnati ahead 23-20.
It stayed close until Cincinnati went on a 12-0 run for a 48-36 lead midway through the second half. Flournoy again led the way with a pair of jumpers and a layup.
