Bearcats in Boise: Payback for bowl

BY MIKE DECOURCY
The Cincinnati Enquirer

BOISE, Idaho — A day in the sun for the UC Bearcats football team a couple years back has led to a couple days in the snow for their No.3-ranked basketball team.

UC at BOISE STATE
  • When: 10 p.m.
  • Where: BSU Pavilion
  • Records: UC 10-1; Boise State 5-3
  • TV: Ch. 19, 10:30 p.m. (taped delay)
  • Radio: WLW-AM (700)
  BY THE NUMBERS
4: Consecutive games in which UC shot .500 or better.
.630: UC guard Kenny Satterfield's shooting in past four games.
The Bearcats (10-1) are here for a game tonight at 10 against reigning Big West Conference champion Boise State (5-3) at the BSU Pavilion. They are here, playing a rare road game against a mid-major opponent, because a basketball visit was promised as part of the deal athletic director Bob Goin put together to get the football team invited to the 1997 Humanitarian Bowl.

Coach Bob Huggins was not enamored of the idea at the time. And he isn't pleased about the fact UNLV will be in town for Sunday's game at the Shoemaker Center two days before the Bearcats. But Huggins still says, “If we can help the athletic department, we want to do that. I guess that's the bottom line.”

Which is not to say he is thrilled to be playing the Broncos, who Tuesday suspended power forward Kejuan Woods (8.8 points, 3.2 rebounds per game).

“They may be the best defensive team we've played so far,” Huggins said.
