UC's top back injured
BY TOM GROESCHEN
The Cincinnati Enquirer
DeMarco McCleskey, who led the University of Cincinnati in rushing (861 yards) and touchdowns (11) as a freshman in 1998, might miss UC's spring intrasquad game Saturday.
McCleskey has a badly sprained thumb that might require surgery, UC coach Rick Minter said. McCleskey was hurt during a scrimmage Saturday.
Should McCleskey require surgery, he still would be ready in time for UC's season opener vs. Kent on Sept.4, Minter said.
UC is asking fans to bring non-perishable food and clothing items to the intrasquad game at Nippert Stadium (2 p.m.), to be donated to victims of the April 9 tornado.
