Cincinnati Bearcats Kenyon Martin, Pete Mickeal and Steve Logan have the opportunity to exchange the UC initials for USA this summer.
Martin and Mickeal, along with at least three dozen other college-age players, were invited to try out May 28-30 in Colorado Springs, Colo., for the U.S. team that will compete in the World University Games.
Logan, a 5-foot-10 point guard, will compete for a spot on the U.S. team that will enter the Junior World Cham pionships from July 15-25 at various sites in Portugal.
A 6-9 center, Martin averaged 10.1 points and 6.9 rebounds. Mickeal, a 6-6 forward, led UC in scoring (14.9) and rebounding (7.2). Both were named All-Conference USA. Playing for the United States last summer in the Goodwill Games helped make preseason stars of Xavier's James Posey and Miami's Wally Szczerbiak.
The World University Games team will play July 3-12 in Spain.
I would think they don't get too many guys Kenyon's size with Kenyon's ability, said UC assistant Rod Baker.
