Mickeal's defense is 'snap'

BY MIKE DeCOURCY
The Cincinnati Enquirer

MEMPHIS - UC forward Pete Mickeal has defended such players as Quincy Lewis of Minnesota, Quentin Richardson of DePaul, Shawn Marion of UNLV, James Posey of Xavier and Lamar Odom of Rhode Island.

Those guys shot a collective 39 percent from the floor, but Saturday's effort against Memphis guard Jimmie “Snap” Hunter might have been his most impressive defensive work yet.

“Wow!” said UC guard Melvin Levett, after Hunter stung him with two three-pointers in scoring 23 second-half points. “That guy is going to be a superstar. He's got every move you can make.”

While Mickeal was holding Hunter scoreless in the first half, Hunter promised he would take advantage whenever there was a defensive switch. Hunter hit his first three on guard Michael Horton, two on Levett and one after Mickeal returned and Hunter was feeling confident.
