UC seniors to be honored

BY MIKE DeCOURCY
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Today is Senior Day for the Cincinnati Bearcats, with the members of the class of 1999 playing their final home game.

Here is a look at three of the players who will be honored before the UC-Louisville game at the Shoemaker Center:

        • Michael Horton, 6-foot-1 guard from Alexandria, Va.

Horton has started 39 games at point guard for the Bearcats and ranks first in Conference USA in assists with 4.0 per game. Coach Bob Huggins considers Horton his best on-the-ball defender.

Horton was named to the C-USA all-tournament team last season. He scored his career- high 17 points in a semifinal win over Louisville last March and set a school record for steals with seven against the Cardinals last January.

        • Alex Meacham, 6-0 guard from Cincinnati

UC's only walk-on player, Meacham has developed a fan following at the Shoe despite his limited appearances, with spectators calling for him each time UC closes a big win.

He has played in eight games and scored a season-high seven points against Nicholls State.

        • Shawn Myrick, 6-1 guard from Maysville, Ky.

Myrick was recruited for his shooting ability out of North Idaho College but has been more of a defensive sparkplug for the Bearcats.
